3.0
|
3 miles in the AM on the National Park trails, 20 minutes of cross training at SCLA in the PM. Went to the doctor
to get treated for an ear infection in my right ear (this was a greater feat than running). |
| Saturday 10/10 |
7.0
|
Despite continued ankle and shin injury, got in two runs (1 and 6 miles) for a very respectable 7 miles on a "Rest
Day". Alternating heating and icing the lower right shin and sticking to running on soft sandy trails while
it heals. Can already feel the positive effect from antibiotics on ear infection. |
| Sunday 10/11 |
12
|
12 miles on the trails and hill of theMinuteman National Park. Cool and windy in the mid 50's. Right shin stil
smarting, whirlpool and much icing post-run. Ear infection in right ear was much better this morning. Two weeks
to MCM! |

| Tuesday 10/13 |
X/T
|

icing |
| Wednesday 10/14 |
5.3
|
5.3 miles of cold (44 F) and windy running around the Charles River. Kind of a duddy run --- need to get much more
fluid in the next week. Adjusting training schedule to match a Sunday marathon. Check out "Hal
Higdon's Week 17" for the day-by-day details. Also need to watch what I'm eating to avoid weight gain
(which is happening). Still icing post run. |
| Thursday 10/15 |
4.2
|
4.2 cold and windy miles along the Charles River last night. Temps in the upper 30's. Feeling better, buts the
legs are still stiff. Thomas called and said "What, are you crazy? No more training! It won't help anyway..." |
| Friday 10/16 |
REST
|
Rested today. Snowed this morning in Lincoln! |
| Saturday 10/17 |
3.2
|
Cold and very windy 3.2 miles from SCLA to the Charles River. About 47F. Feeling better on right ankle and shin,
legs are still very stiff starting out. Much better than earlier in the week. Only seven days left... |
| Sunday 10/18 |
8.0
|
8+ miles on the Minuteman National Park trails. 37F, cold, and very windy. Completed soaked through and shivering
cold. Post run, it started to snow and sleet. Warmed up in the whirlpool at BSC. |
| Monday 10/19 |
X/T
|
Short 20 minute cross training session at SCLA. Just a wee bit stiff walking, but all in all in good shape Starting
to keep an eye on the forecast for Sunday - cloudy, mid-60's. Go to watch what I'm eating --- without the high
mileage it's awefully easy to gain unneeded weight.
Check out "Hal Higdon's Week 18" for the
day-by-day details. |
| Tuesday 10/20 |
3.2
|
3.2 miles tonight down by the Charles River. Awfully sore hips and Glutes. 2 Motrin and hoping for a better run
tomorrow. |
| Wednesday 10/21 |
4.0
|
4.0 miles at night runing along the Charles River, mid point on the Harvard Bridge. Both hips and glutes are sore,
although better than Tuesday night. Post-run cooled off in the SCLA pool, doing running in chest high water. Spent
the rest of the night on a bad of ice. Will increase the Motrin tomorrow. No more running until Sunday! |
| Thursday 10/22 |
Rest/PT |
Spent 20 minutes "running" in the pool at SCLA, nice and cool, did wonders for my hips and legs. Spoke
with Thomas today and he's diagnosed my hip/leg injuries as Iliotibial
Band Syndrome. He could be right, need to be very careful and treat it before Sunday. Working on ITBS stretches,
Motrins. etc. |
| Friday 10/23 |
Rest/PT
|
Two self administred PT sessions today for ITBS. Whirlpool at Waltham BSC, then stretches, then running the the
pool to cool off. Iced left hip the afternoon --- bag leaked badly onto my work chair. Felling much better than
earlier in the week! Continuing with 600 mg of Motrin, twice a day. Got home late and cooked a pan firied cod,
baked potato, and peas for dinner. Not exactly carb loading, but healthy. Maria and Casey have already arrived
at Thomas and Ann's house in Ellicott City. Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. |
| Saturday 10/24 |
