- Monday March 30 - 30 minutes of x-training and 25 minutes (2.55 miles) on the treadmill at SCLA, breaking in
the new running shoes.
- Tuesday March 31 - 6.2 mile run, from SCLA down the Charles River, and back via Comm Ave - unpleasently cold
and windy, especially off the water!
- Wednesday April 1 - 8.1 miles from downtown to the Charles River, across Mass Ave bridge to Cambridge, and
back to Boston. Rainy and cold --- and slow. A bit dehydrated at the end. Breaking the new Asics in just fine ---
used a belt sander yesterday to loosen up the mid-sole.
- Thursday April 2 - Took a real rest day, finished it in the jacuzzi at the gym. A very blue "singlet"
from MSPCC arrived via FedEx ... a bit tight, but a few more pounds still to go.
- Friday April 3 - 5.5 miles in a wild thunderstorm from SCLA along the Charles River! Avoided the Longfellow
Bridge because of the lightning. Wind, downpours, deep puddles ... weighed a few extra pounds from all of the water!
Only the dedicated few were out today.
- Saturday April 4 - 6.0 miles on trails on the Minuteman National Park in Concord & Lincoln. Spitting cold
rain, but very, very windy! 42F Working on more of a race speed --- first 5 miles in 44:48 --- 6.6 MPH average
for entire run. Training plan call for a day of rest today, but I needed speed work.
- Sunday April 5 - 15.9 miles from Natick center to the finish line in Copley Square on the marathon course.
Really good run, 9:10 per mile average. 50F, tail wind most of the run.
- Monday April 6 - Some quick cross-training tonight at the gym. Final BAA Marathon clinic at Marathon Sports
across from the BPL onn Boylston Street. Great clinic on final days of training by three Olympic qualifiers. Lisa
Hughes from WBZ kicked it off - discussing her reporting and Marathon Day coverage. Even won a gym bag!
- Tuesday April 7 - 35 minutes of cross-training tonight at 9:15 PM at the BSC --- treadmill, biking, and ellipticals.
A bit late for working out, but OK.
- Wednesday April 8 - 4.6 miles around the eastern part of the Charles River including the Museum of Science.
Following Danny Kelly's advice and doing some "speed work" - 9:06 average pace. Very cool and windy.
Good run!
- Thursday April 9 - 6.4 excellent miles around the Charles River, including the Longfellow Bridge (simulated
hills). Wonderful 58F, but very windy from the West. 9:05 average pace. I can't help but notice that I'm the oldest
runner out there ... where did the rest of them go?
- Friday April 10 - 10 mile run from Rt. 16 in Newton (Woodland T stop), up Heartbreak Hill, and then on to Arlington
Street in downtown Boston via the course. Fast run, beautiful warm day!
- Saturday April 11 - Cross training for 30 minutes at BSC in Waltham,
- Sunday April 12 - 8.2 very cold (38F) and very windy (25-30 MPH) run in Amherst and South Handley, MA. A funky
loop from Hampshire College after droppinf Mr. Alexander off at school. Last "long run" before Boston!
Tapering...
- Monday April 13 - Cross training for 25 minutes at BSC in Waltham, being careful.
- Tuesday April 14 - Cross training for 40 minutes at BSC in Waltham. Gaining a slight bit of weight --- could
either be the reduced training or too much Easter candy. Need to cut back on the junk food and eat more healthy.
- Wednesday April 15 - 3.3 miles down and back to the Charles River tonight, unpleasantly cold and windy. Really
wished I had worn gloves! Mailed taxes without incident.
- Thursday April 16 - 4.4 miles up and down Heartbreak Hill in Newton to BC, cool, dark, and a headwind --- a
hint of Monday's weather. 8:45 pace.
- riday April 17 - Ran the final 2 miles of training tonight from Newton-Wellesly Hospital to a bit up Comm Ave.
Feeling just right, but getting carb jitters.
- Saturday April 18 - Rest --- and more carb loading.
- Sunday April 19 - More rest --- and even more carb loading. Pauline hosted a small "carb loading party"
tonight - Maria, Casey, Igs, Eleanor, LA, Ian, Stephen, and Heather joined us.
- Monday April 20 - Race Day!
- Upcoming events:
- April 20th - 2009 BAA Boston Marathon!
